Stars N Garters

This design is Kerin Schiesser's. Thanks go to Kerin for allowing me to post instructions here. Kerin retains all rights to this pattern. This is a beautiful pattern. The garters really inspired me!
First, do a C10. Call one of the points where 10 lines meet the "top", and the one diametrically opposite the "bottom".

Part 1 - Stars

Using the 1/2 way point, do a star in one color around the Temari ball. Repeat the star until you reach the division lines. Do another star in between the cracks in the first star (that is, where the division line hits the lines radiating from the center as in the second part of the picture above).

Part 2 - Garters

In the image above, I filled in with orange the part we've already done. The next step is to create triangles. You'll be creating 10 triangles around the obi (center) of the design. Do each triangle 1/2 way to the edge of the intermediate triangles in the image above. Make sure you keep track of how many repetitions you do for each triangle. That magic number should be the same for the # of repetitions you do below. Weaving in and out, start at the point marked 1 above (that's just inside the angled part of the triangle. Unlike the diagram, you should keep that close to the edge of the triangle (vs in the middle). Go up to the little cross (where 2,3,4 is marked). 3 is 1/2 the way up, and 2 and 4 are the same distance to the sides that 3 is up. So you will cross over yourself and back down to 5 (the same point as 1 , but in the next triangle over). Repeat until you are back at the beginning. (Do the same number of repetitions as you did for the triangles.) Finally, do the same "round and round" pattern on the bottom half.

When I finished mine, I didn't like how the plain color didn't show up well against the background, so I did one more round of each in the opposite color.
